Taksim Mosque Project
The Mosque of Taksim is located on an area of 2400 sqm, and consists of 9 floors, 5 floors being under the ground and 4 floors being on the ground. It has a construction area of 20,000 sqm, and it has 12 domes one of which is the main dome, and two minarets. It will also be the first TOP DOWN mosque in Turkey. As a requirement of this system, it is being built on 73 internal and 260 peripheral bored piles by employing a scaffolding method. This system is used for the first time in a public construction after the underground (subway) constructions. The domes have various dimensions; the main dome has a height of 30 meters and a span of 26 m. 4 of the domes will be steel construction, and the other domes are designed to be concrete. The domes are being constructed with a technique called umbrella. In this technique, first the heights part of the dome is constructed, and then the other domes are completed as if they are opened like an umbrella around the peripheral beam. The Minarets has a height of 62 m. and will be constructed as a whole with the technique of slip form. When completed, the mosque can house 1200 people who will be able to perform the ritual prayers of Islam at the same time. It will have a car park for 600 vehicles, and cultural and exhibition areas. And this monument which is being built with a modern architecture style and Ottoman style is planned to be opened in 2018.
